As the global pandemic rages on, Nintendo Switch units continue to sell out, and software sales continue to increase for the console. So do lists that claim to be the best games, but in reality are just the author's favorite games. However, we made a perfect list. A list is based on statistics, and a 100% accurate formula. No bias. No favoritism.
The inputs used for this are statistics from HowLongToBeat.com and Metacritic along with the price. Including the hours taken to beat the game + the extras, the rate of retirement, the critic score, and the user score, because at times critics and the general public of a game drastically disagree. That is why we used the average of the two different Metacritic scores. The price was used to calculate how valuable the time playing the game was.
Of course, we needed to balance the equation. Certain variables are more important than others. Like how much of user-base actually finishes the game. Which this is probably the most important statistic to have, which is obtained by the (1-retirement rate). This value is doubled to increase the impact it has on the formula. On the other side, the Time/MSRP is raised to the power of 1/8 as to prevent the price and time it took to beat from having too much sway. Without this being balanced The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild had a score of around 300 while Mario Odyssey, a game which is ranked the same on Metacritic, had less than a third of the score. Anyways, the basic formula is:
(Time/msrp)^(1/8) * ((user metacritic score + critic metacritic score)/2) * 2(1- retirement rate) = Final Score
However, onto the list:
1) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 189 pts
2) Divinity Original Sin II Definitive Edition - 185 pts
3) Dragon Quest XI S: Heroes of an Elusive Age - 182 pts
3) Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling - 182 pts
5) Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - 179 pts
6) Fire Emblem: Three Houses - 177 pts
6) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - 177 pts
8) Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition - 172 pts
9) Super Mario Odyssey - 166 pts
10) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 163 pts
10) Dead Cells - 163 pts
These are the top 10 Switch games, proven by hard cold statistics and math as of now. Depending on the games that release in the remaining half of the Switch's lifespan, this list could dramatically change. As a disclaimer, around 30 of the Switch's biggest games were tested to be a part of this, which are BOTW, Divinity Original Sin II DE, Dragon Quest XI S, Bug Fables, Xenoblade DE, Xenoblade 2, Fire Emblem: 3H, Witcher 3, Mario Odyssey, Dead Cells, Smash Ultimate, Skyrim, Astral Chain, Undertale, Cuphead, Sonic Mania Plus, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Animal Crossing: New Horizons (review bombing apperantly has a huge effect, but it is the general population's will), Mario Maker 2, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX. New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, Pokemon Sword, Hatsune Miku Project Diva Mega-mix, Pokemon Shield, Kirby Star Allies. Feel free to test more on your own with either the formula provided earlier, you may even get shocking results from unsuspecting games.
